Find your spot

You want to find a place where you enjoy sitting with minimal distractions from things and people. A place where you feel comfortable, enjoy your own company, and are okay being alone. A place where you feel relaxed and positive.

It could be a spot in your bedroom, study room, backyard, car, or anywhere you feel relaxed and comfortable. Don't be afraid to try different spots you haven't thought of. Sometimes the best spot for you is something unexpected or unusual. Keep experimenting until you find the one that suits you best.

Mental alertness

Pick a time when you are at your mental peak to read at your spot. You'll enjoy your reading more and it will motivate you to read daily. In contrast, you won't get much from reading if you're tired or have low mental alertness.

Set aside at least 60 minutes for reading at your spot. Review your daily routine to identify when you're most mentally alert and see if you can dedicate 60 minutes each day to reading. You may not need to spend the entire 60 minutes reading at your spot, but ensure you give yourself those 60 minutes just to be at your spot.

Short session

Read in short sessions, such as 15-30 minutes, then rest for 5 minutes before continuing. Short reading sessions help your brain process information more effectively because overwhelming it with too much information can hinder learning and decrease the enjoyment of reading.

Test which reading duration, such as 15, 20, or 30 minutes, works best for you, and stick with it.

Notebook for creative ideas

Keep a notebook at your spot to jot down ideas as you read. Your brain will generate new ideas to improve your life, career, health, and relationships. Be sure to write them down immediately; otherwise, you'll forget and regret them later.

You will be surprised by the ideas you develop when reading new things. Reading allows you to enter a new world that will give you new ideas. As a result, you will appreciate reading because those ideas have improved your life.

It's better to use a notebook and pen or pencil instead of a notepad because writing things down with a pen or pencil makes it feel more real.

Routine/habit

Make it a habit to read at your designated spot and time. Your brain will be more prepared to read and generate new ideas when reading becomes a regular part of your routine at that specific spot and time.

By applying these tips to develop a reading habit, you will find reading enjoyable because you'll learn new things that can improve your life. When you enjoy learning new things, you will also enjoy reading, no matter what book you're reading. Whenever someone gives you a new book, regardless of the topic, you'll enjoy reading it because you know it will teach you something new. When that happens, you've developed a habit of enjoying reading. It will be one of the best habits you can ever develop.
